Can Swarm components run in VMware?

Can Swarm components run in VMware?

Yes.

Except for Swarm storage nodes, it is recommended to run other Swarm components as Virtual Machines (VMs). Content Gateways, SCS/CSN, Swarm Search (Elasticsearch) nodes, and FileFly servers are good candidates to run as VMs. It is not recommended to run Swarm storage nodes as VMs in production environments. Contact the DataCore sales team if a hard requirement exists for Swarm storage nodes to run in VMware as some environments may be acceptable.

Other virtual solutions such as Virtualbox or Hyper-V are not tested, so no official support exists.

Note

VMware has bugs in their network drivers that may cause virtual storage nodes to kernel panic during a PXE boot. If this happens, please power cycle the VM guest and it should boot correctly on the next retry.
