How to look at the Replication feed FEEDs info line- feed causes

These messages are provided at info level every minute from each node.  They are cumulative over time.

Filename: castor.log

Example lines, formatted for readability:

192.168.1.57<182>2015-07-22 15:40:27,090 FEEDS INFO: Feed causes: feedId=1, Exists Successes= 577463: Total, 81: duplicate,  28226: replication 201 , 59046: obsolete, 490110: replication 409 ; Exists Failures=0: Total; Delete Successes=0: Total; Delete Failures=0: Total

It is <count>: <cause>:

  • Replication 201 - work was performed, the stream was replicated to the target cluster.

  • Replication 409 - the stream is already present the target cluster.

  • Duplicate - the stream has already been sent to the replication feed so not sent again.

  • Obsolete - the stream has been deleted during the time in the feed queue or the stream may have been trimmed while in the queue (from retires or relocation).  This is likely not helpful as it exposes intra-cluster activities and not SCSP operations the application starts.

The ratio of real work in the above example is:

  • 28226 / 577463

Obtain a real rate of streams replicated by taking the rate from a single node an hour apart and performing the math:

192.168.1.57 <182>2015-07-22 14:40:27,135 FEEDS INFO: Feed causes: feedId=1, Exists Successes=566802: Total, 81: duplicate, 28224: replication 201 , 57973: obsolete, 480524: replication 409 ; Exists Failures=0: Total; Delete Successes=0: Total; Delete Failures=0: Total 192.168.1.57<182>2015-07-22 15:40:27,090 FEEDS INFO: Feed causes: feedId=1, Exists Successes=577463: Total, 81: duplicate, 28326: replication 201 , 59046: obsolete, 490110: replication 409 ; Exists Failures=0: Total; Delete Successes=0: Total; Delete Failures=0: Total
  • 28326 - 28224 = 102 streams replicated in the last hour

  • 490110 - 480524 = 9586 streams verified in the last hour. The streams already exist in the target cluster.
