Let’s compare the backup performance with different requirements using sample examples. We have observed the 30x reduction in object count from the default block size resulted in an impressive 3.5x performance improvement, considerably shortening the time to back up the files.

Sample Example 1

Using the 64KB Veeam default block sizes to backup the 10 VMs to a DataCore Swarm bucket results in a single 1.2TB job with the following Write/Read/Delete job times:

Job Type

Job Times

Average Speed

Writing

233 minutes

77MB/s

Reading

121 minutes

144 MB/s

Deleting

200 minutes

-

The above test meets Veeam Certification requirements if the job completes in less than 270 minutes.

Veeam writes the backup data as 4,200,000 objects on DataCore Swarm.

Sample Example 2

When repeating the same test after increasing the Veeam object block size from 64 KB to 8MB, we observe the following Write/Read/Delete job times:

Job Type

Job Times

Average Speed

Writing

61 minutes

288 MB/s

Reading

47 minutes

372 MB/s

Deleting

11 minutes

-

Veeam writes the backup data as 140,000 objects on DataCore Swarm.
