Changes in Swarm Cluster Services (SCS) 1.7

This release features the following improvements:

  • The RPM package is now signed with a SHA256 signature.

  • SCS init wizard now asks which network interface to use for external and internal storage network.

  • nft_conntrack_tftp kernel module is auto-loaded and required for netboot. (SCSL-374)

  • scsctl command line arguments autocomplete now. (SCSL-122)

  • network.timesource automatically includes the SCS backend IP address as a default. (SCSL-232)

  • Fixed a bug that prevented podman ps from showing all pods as healthy. (SCSL-377)

  • Old container images are properly cleaned up on an upgrade. (SCSL-387)

  • Old custom node.cfg files are now properly handled when doing a component add command. (SCSL-396)

Limitations

  • SELinux must be disabled when initializing or upgrading SCS. (SCSL-365)

  • Performing a system reset (scsctl system reset) may result an error if it runs after an upgrade. Contact support if this occurs. (SCSL-370)

  • This release does not include any UI support. (UIS-1137)

  • There is no support for using gPXE instead of iPXE in this release. (PLT-60)

Changes in Swarm Cluster Services (SCS) 1.6

This release features the following improvements:

  • Support for static IPs is further enhanced, with the ability to set specific addresses manually. (SCSL-363)

  • Administrative user names other than “admin” are supported. Additionally, if storage nodes are unavailable to receive the administrative update, the update will fail. However, in circumstances where the update should be permitted, a new flag (--allow-notification-failures) has been added to the scsctl {component} config set .... See the help text for additional details. (SCSL-351 and SCSL-355)

Required

The entire storage cluster must be rebooted if the administrator user name is changed at any time.

  • When an instance must be removed from SCS, metadata and in-memory caches are completely cleared of the reference. (SCSL-362)

  • Every time DHCP is initialized, a backup copy of the prior dhcpd.conf file will be created, and its location will be printed on the screen. This will help with migrating existing manual updates. (SCSL-357)

  • In cases where a sysctl file needs to be provided to storage nodes, a new static file name of SYSCTL is supported for this purpose. Swarm Storage 15.3.1 is also required for this. (SCSL-264)

  • Improvements around systemd have been included. However, SELinux must be disabled when initializing or upgrading SCS. (SCSL-242, SCSL-365, and SCSL-367)

  • The prompt for the initial administrative password has been moved into the scsctl init wizard command. (SCSL-360)

  • Swarm Storage authentication is no longer broken when the administrative password is changed from its existing value to the same value. (SCSL-364).

  • Detailed logs from the initialization wizard or upgrade process have been moved to the main logging folder (/var/log/datacore/) (SCSL-371).

Limitations

  • SELinux must be disabled when initializing or upgrading SCS. (SCSL-365)

  • Performing a system reset (scsctl system reset) may result in an error if it runs after an upgrade. Contact support if this occurs. (SCSL-370)

  • There is no support for using gPXE instead of iPXE in this release. (PLT-60)

Changes in Swarm Cluster Services (SCS) 1.5.1

This release features the following improvements:

  • Hot fix for upgrading to 1.5.x. (SCSL-350)

Limitations

  • Using an administrator user name other than “admin” is supported. However, if changing the user name, “admin” is the only allowed value. This limitation will be removed in a future release. (SCSL-351)

Required

The storage cluster must be rebooted after changing the administrator user name.

  • The entire storage cluster must be rebooted if the user name is changed. (SCSL-351)

  • There is no support for using gPXE instead of iPXE in this release. (PLT-60)

Changes in Swarm Cluster Services (SCS) 1.5

This release features the following improvements:

  • The use of statically allocated IP addresses is supported by default when used with Swarm Storage 15.3. (SCSL-117, SCSL-152, SCSL-292, and SCSL-319)

  • Improved tracking of node state. (SCSL-317, SCSL-336, and SCSL-341)

  • Improved support for booting large clusters. (SCSL-333)

  • Better support for partition mounts. (SCSL-270 and SCSL-316)

  • Updates to configuration validation. (SCSL-118, SCSL-257, SCSL-296, SCSL-306, SCSL-312, SCSL-313, SCSL-318, and SCSL-334)

  • Removal of bash auto-completion. (SCSL-122 and SCSL-198)

Limitations

  • There is no support for using gPXE instead of iPXE in this release. (PLT-60)

This release features the following improvements:

  • Better support for Encryption-at-Rest (EAR) on storage nodes. (SCSL-204 and SCSL-299)

  • Added support for optional multicast. During the installation of Swarm Storage 15.0 or later, select whether to use multicast or not from the prompted screen. Changing this setting from the current value requires a complete (non-rolling) cluster reboot. (SCSL-248)

  • Resolved upgrade issue. Upgrading from all prior versions is now supported. (SCSL-283 and SCSL-293)

  • Updates to the administrative user and/or password are now correctly pushed out to Swarm storage nodes. (SCSL-212)
