Swarm & Veeam Configuration and Setup

The following configuration steps outline the process to deploy Veeam Backup and Replication with DataCore Swarm as the Capacity Tier in a Scale-out Backup Repository (SOBR).

Prerequisites

  • Veeam Backup and Replication v12+ with support for S3-compatible object storage.

  • The latest DataCore Swarm (v16.1.4).

    • Erasure Encoding enabled to support multi-part upload, 4:2 recommended.

    • Setup to support SSL, Veeam requires SSL transfer to object storage.

  • Swarm Content Portal supports the latest Gateway (v8.1.0) for enabling object locking.

Sequence of Operations

From a high level, use the following steps to configure the environment:

On your Swarm domain

  1. Create a token that provides the credentials used in API calls from Veeam when communicating with Swarm.

  2. Create a bucket with Erasure Coding and Content Versioning enabled.

  3. Enable object locking on the bucket using the Swarm Content Portal.

From the Veeam Backup & Replication console

  1. Add a backup repository for immutable backups using the Swarm bucket created above.

  2. Add a Scale-out Backup Repository using the Swarm bucket as the Capacity Tier.
