To migrate the FileFly tools server

Migration of the FileFly tools server is accomplished by performing a fresh install of FileFly tools and restoring from a recent backup file. The first step is to locate the backup and create a fresh one.

Best practice

After changing the FileFly environment, store a fresh copy of the backup in Swarm or elsewhere.

  1. Log in to the FileFly Admin Portal.

  2. Select the Settings (gear icon) option, at the far right:

  3.  On the Settings, scroll down to the Configuration Backup section.

Record the location where the backups are written.

  4. Select Force Backup Now.

  5. Once the backup completes, it appears in the list of backup files:

  6. In File Explorer, browse to the backup file:

  7. Copy the file to the destination server, so it is available during installation.

  8. Navigate to the destination server to configure it and install FileFly tools.

  9. Edit the hostfile so the FileFly tools server can be installed.

    1. Right-click Windows PowerShell and open it as an administrator.

    2. Within PowerShell, navigate to the hosts file: C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

    3. Open the hosts file in Notepad to point name resolution for the FileFly server (here, filefly.ecorp.com) to the localhost:

  10. Save the file.

  11. Start the install of FileFly tools.

  12. Click Next past the first two screens, then select Restore from Backup:

  13. Browse to the backup file when prompted:

  14. The installer extracts and checks the files and DNS names in the background. the installer continues if all passes.

  15. From the new machine, open the Admin Portal and verify it is working.

  16. Update the DNS record to reflect the changes, and remove the hostfile entry.

  17. If the older server is standalone, decommission it.
